Is Facebook Taking Over the Web?

The interwebs are constantly shifting as new companies, ideas, and technologies come on the scene and old ones fade into obscurity.

Over the last five years social networking websites have gone from a hobby for technophiles to the most visited sites on the internet. As of April ’09 American’s spent a combined 40,000 years of time each month on the top 10 social networks. This was a more than two fold increase from 1 year ago, so you can only imagine where that number stands today. Continue reading

Everyone Should Have a Plan B Job

In the economic downturn we’re in, or anytime for that matter, we can never be too sure about our job security. Ideally, employers would always have loyal employees, and employees would have loyal employers. This is not often the case, and the impact on household or business can be devastating. Thus it is a prudent move to always have an escape plan. An alternative to the way you know and live your life. A means of supporting your business or personal employment if all doesn’t go as planned. This is, of course, often referred to as a “Plan B.” Continue reading

Apple CEO Steve Jobs Turns 54

As you may well know, Apple (the computer company) has had a very turbulent start for 2009. It began with a conference that Apple CEO Steve Jobs traditional gives a keynote for, but due to new health issues, Steve took his first time-off ever (to my knowledge) to recover. When this happened, thousands of Apple fans world-wide shook in their boots, and the stock-market followed suit (bunch of backboneless wimps). Continue reading

Algae is the New Green Fuel

Gasoline production now has a long list of alternative raw materials to replace crude oil. Fuel substances now range a variety of vegetables—all which are used as food sources. Seeing as how these plants have so many great uses, it is a shame to use them for fuel production in light of how little fuel they actually produce. An acre of wheat produces just 277 gallons of fuel—and that’s not taking in consideration the costs it takes to manufacture the wheat alternative fuel. Bottom line: the pupular alternatives to date are just not cut out to replace crude oil as a mass marketed source for power. Continue reading

Book Review: Lovemarks – The Future Beyond Brands

The first time I read this book was about two years ago. Still, it is one of the best reads I have on my shelves, and I pick it up and read it again about once a year. Lovemarks, by Kevin Roberts (CEO worldwide of Saatchi & Saatchi), is truly a remarkable find for anyone interested or involved in marketing, business, the arts, and product development. Commercial Art vs. Pure Art

I work full-time in the art and video department of American Vision, a for profit company/publisher/ministry. Even before I worked there, most of my previous work involved a great deal of graphic design. This work has always appealed to me because artistry runs in the family. I have several cousins that are full-time in marketing and the arts. One of my uncles was the cartoonist at Six Flags Over Georgia when he was out of college. In keeping up with the family and my own goals, I do my best to add to my experience and knowledge of the arts from time to time. Here are some of my observations. Continue reading
