The New E-book Reader: Nook

nookI haven’t seriously considered e-readers for personal use until now. In this growing market, something that has been lacking is significant competition with the all-too-well-known Amazon Kindle. Now that B&N has joined the market with their new Nook, I think that the power play for market share will seriously increase — and thus improve the over-all quality of the devices to grab the investment of potential e-reader customers.

My only difficulty these days is budgeting which new gizmo I want to save up for first. As a reader myself, I am compelled to purchase an e-reader to save on purchasing books for the long-run. As a writer, I want a home office ideal for creative writing and editing — so I want an iMac with all the writer’s bells and whistles.

Many have shied from the latest and bravest technologies in the past year, from what I’m gathering. I’m not sure what all comes into play with our choices to stick with the older and familiar technologies we grew up with, but the urge to stay with the familiar and not deal with the learning curve of newer technologies is strong with everyday people. I know far more friends are likely not to use the latest mouse and keyboard technologies as long as they can avoid them, and others still are stuck on other conventions like CDs and DVDs over digital downloadable media.

In spite of users/customers best efforts to stick to their familiar and dear gadgetry of yesteryear, tech businesses trudge ever upward and onward. The tools are ever becoming more practical, economical, and speedious. So can the crowd between 18 – 35 years of age keep up with this next generation of whiz machines? I wonder. I’ll be eager to see what my generation does with ever greater technology.

Speak Up

I’m very interested to know what you think. Do you think I’m judging too early? Will tech users prove me wrong, and gravitate to the newer technologies once they can afford them? Obviously, there is room for improvement yet for e-reading machines, but is it too early to consider them practical replacements for everyday reading? Help yourself to the comments section.
